Earlier this week, I was over in Ybor City for a meetup at the The Bunker, a coffee and wine bar. It’s the way I imagine a coffee bar should be – relaxing atmosphere, great coffee and some pretty good food too. Finding a cafe near me isn't always easy, but this one is everything I want in a well-rounded coffee station.
The last time I was there, I ordered an Iced Latte and Iced Mocha. Hey, it was a long meeting and I hadn’t had much caffeine that day. I’m sure you understand.
The iced latte was good, but it was a little too strong or maybe bitter for my mood that night. The iced mocha hit the spot. A lot of places seem to overdo the chocolate or sugar, but not at The Bunker. It was probably the best iced mocha that I’ve had in a long time.
But there was some bad news. The night I was there, they were out of bread for their sandwiches. There had been a big festival earlier that week and their next delivery of bread wasn’t there yet. I can overlook that, that’s no big deal and understandable.
Instead, I ordered one of their Cuban Sandwiches (ham, salami, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard) on pita bread. It actually wasn’t bad, except I ordered it without pickles and they felt the need to put pickles on it anyways. I’m a picky eater, I’ll admit that, but I could’ve lived with the pickles.
But then, they didn’t give me my Iced Latte that I ordered with the meal. I had to wait a few minutes and finally ask the barista for my drink. It was pretty clear that he had forgotten about it. That’s one thing you just can’t mess with – I need my caffeine.
Overall, the staff is friendly and helpful besides the “incidents” that night. I’ve ordered things there a few times now and that was the only problem that I’ve had. It’s not going to stop me from going back and buying coffee and food the next time that I’m there. If you’re in the area, you should definitely check it out.
